The Valley Isle’s local food movement is abundant and thriving, and we have our diligent and passionate farmers to thank. To support our local farms is to promote environmental sustainability and health. Savor island-fresh harvests, nourishing juices, all-natural preserves, delicious baked treats and much more at one of these farmers markets.

CENTRAL MAUI

Kumu Farms

Maui Tropical Plantation, Wailuku

Lilikoi or passion fruit.

Certified organic, same-day harvests would be all the reasons you need to check out Kumu Farms’ farm stand at the Maui Tropical Plantation. The farms’ 25 acres yield about thirty different crops that include chard, salad mixes, carrots, fennel, beans, beets and kale. Sun-ripened strawberries and non-GMO papayas are big draws, and so are seasonal bounties of lilikois and mangoes.

Maui Swap Meet

Though most visitors beeline to the swap meet for affordable gift-shopping, one will also find about a dozen farm stands at this weekly market in Kahului. Pick up fresh veggies, herbs or try exotic fruits from Shishido Farms, Traje Farms, Rainbow Mushroom and Hong’s Farms to name a few. Not to be missed are gourmet donuts from Donut Dynamite, natural and fructose-free popsicles from Shaka Pops Maui, and a host of food trucks.

SOUTH MAUI

Farmers’ Market of Maui-Kihei

Fresh Maui papayas.

Near Kihei Canoe Club, this lot is transformed during weekdays into a farmer’s market. Enjoy papayas and pineapples all year, and lilikoi and mangoes during the summer. The organizers also run a commercial kitchen where they prepare and package fresh guacamole, pineapple salsa, and papaya seed dressing.

Kula Country Farms

The family-run farm’s idyllic setting draws guests for wonderful strawberry picking and its fall annual pumpkin patch. The produce stand is a cornucopia of seasonal vegetables, fruits and flowers, as well as their popular jams (strawberry Hawaiian chili pepper jam, anyone?), syrups and Kula onion barbeque sauce.

Being that Upcountry Maui has one of the most ideal weather and soil to grow crops, this market boasts of prime fruits and produce harvests, as well as lovely flora. Honey, fruit preserves, fresh-baked olive bread, kombucha tea, Thai food, raw and vegan foods, and live music round out this fabulous gathering.

WEST MAUI

Napili Farmers Market

From beautiful, organic produce, microgreens and wheatgrass shots from Napiliflo Farm, kombucha tea, fresh juices, fresh eggs and baked goods; this market in Napili highlights some of the best growers and artisans on this side of the Valley Isle.

Just off of Hwy. 30 and across the beach park, this weekly gathering offers fresh produce and fruits, local eggs, lilikoi butter and honey. There is a also a family-run stand that sells egg salad sandwiches using local ingredients and home-made bread, and green smoothies in mason jars. Baked goodies often include banana bread, haupia purple sweet potato pie with a macadamia nut shortbread crust and ulu (breadfruit) chips.

Kadota Figs.

James “Kimo” Simpliciano, a community-minded farmer and chef, brings fresh, seasonal harvests to the market, and personally tends to this organic farm. Local favorites like lilikoi, papaya, mangoes, kale, beets, tomatoes, herbs, sunflowers and farm-fresh eggs are some of the goodness one might see. The farm also grows beautiful and unexpected crops like white Kadota figs, turmeric, Kabocha squash and Hungarian sweet peppers.

EAST MAUI

Hana Fresh Farm Stand

This farm stand in heavenly Hana has certified organic tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuces, tropical fruits and herbs, plus baked breads and muffins. Adjacent is a café that serves breakfast and lunch highlighting the farm’s fresh produce and all-natural shave ice.
